Marius
Description
Marius is a character in Les Miserables who is deeply in love with Cosette. Marius shows that without Cosette he wouldn't be able to live. Marius lived at the convent. He was tricked by the Thenardiers, because he was blinded by the passion he had for Cosette. He honestly thought that the Thenardiers were a poor family who could barley survive. At one point, Marius even found himself paying the bills for the Thenardiers. After Marius knew that he might never see Cosette again, Marius said that he couldn't live any longer. He headed straight to the barricade, because he figured that there he would die either way. Marius was saved once by Eponine, but the second time he got hit. He was out cold on the floor, but Jean Valjean came to his rescue. Marius later in life married Cosette. This a cherished moment in Marius' life. This gave Marius back his reason to live. Marius tho
The Evolution of Marius
Marius throughout the story changed the way he saw and thought about politics and life. Before, he was told that his father didn't care about him, so he followed the ways of his grandfather. Once he found out that his father did care about him, he changed his political views. Then after that, he met the friends of the ABC. They weren't satisfied with any political group. This made Marius politically confused. Also, when he knew that Cosette was leaving to a differen't country, his heart was broken. He thought he would never be able to live again. But he was wrong, for he later married the love of his life. His life was at its best, somewhere he thought he would never be. His thoughts changed and so did his personality, making Marius a dynamic character.

Overall Theme
The overall theme represented by Marius was love at first sight. He saw Cosette at the park, and he automatically fell in love with her. Even if Marius and Cosette never spent time together, Marius was still in deep love with her. Marius was so in love with her, that he said he couldn't live without her. He went to the barricade with one intention and that was to die. Marius married Cosette at the end of the book, and he was happy with his beloved Cosette.
Motivation
Marius' motivation was Cosette. In Marius' mind, she was the only reason for his existence. Marius thought that without her love, he couldn't live. Marius even tried to convince M. Gillenormand to let him marry Cosette. Marius would have done anything to be able to spend the rest of his life with her. Until one day Jean Valjean gave permission for Cosette and Marius to marry.
